What is meditation?
Simply, meditation is the training of self-awareness. There are many forms meditation can take. Ranging from spiritual and focused, to active and energetic. There is no right or wrong when it comes to meditation. It is a journey that takes practice and training and is very much personal. The main goal is to find a method that works for you.
My normal go-to form of meditation is going for a walk with meditative and soothing music with affirmations. A form of meditation that I have been working on cultivating over the years is the sit-down, focusing, and mindfulness meditation style. This is where I have meditation music, with or without a guide, and focus inwards and physically feel my body decompress. This is especially great when I am unable to go outside for a walking meditation.
No matter your experience or style with focusing your mind, sometimes keeping things simple is needed. When I need a deeper decompression, I will combine a spiritual cleansing bath or an uncrossing along with a meditation to really scrub away the feelings of anxiety and stress. Take a look at Ask Alex’s article, “Uncross, Untie, And Set Yourself Free!” to learn more on how to uncross yourself.
Here are some of my go-to YouTube meditation videos when I am already stressed out. I made this list so that I don’t have to waste time looking for a good way to destress in different parts of the day. Not having to pay for an app or scroll through thousands of videos to find what I need when in the moment of high stress is an awesome feeling. Just knowing that I can come back to this list and click on any video, knowing it is going to help, reduces my stress automatically.
I have spent hours finding and curating free YouTube meditation videos that work for my overloaded, go-go-go, stressful life. May it be something to start my day, decompressing quickly during my lunch break (if I take one,) a 5-min recharge to get my energy back up, guided meditation to tackle deeper stresses, or even something to put my phone down and go to sleep to.
5 Free Meditation Videos on YouTube
Trying to find a free meditation is time-consuming and daunting. One thing to keep in mind is that these free YouTube meditation videos could end up containing ads. An ad in the middle of your guided meditation is probably not going to help you relax. If you have a YouTube Premium subscription, that won’t be an issue. But since we are going for free here, I have tried to include only videos that, at the time of writing, don’t have disruptive ads in the middle of the video. Here are my suggestions for some great free meditation videos on YouTube. I have picked different styles so you can find out what works best for you.
Here are my top recommendations that I use, that I know will help you relax. The best thing is they are free!
1. Frequency Based Meditation Music Video 432Hz
Sound plays a pivotal role in our well-being. Many believe there are benefits to listening in specific frequencies. In this video, we have music set to 432Hz. It is believed that this frequency is good for soothing nerves that can positively influence your whole body. One of the shorter videos listed here, it has relaxing looping environmental scenes to go along with the meditation music. This is a music and image video that doesn’t contain any voices or narrative at only 23-min long.
2. Ambient Meditation Music Video
Can’t take the time to close your eyes. Take a few deep breaths and put this meditative classical background music on while you tackle stressful projects. This is not the traditional meditation one thinks of, but a highly curated compilation of classical music that will keep you focused. Keeping me in the right frame of mind when I must keep working, I take a min when I get stressed and just focus on the flow of the music and try to control my breathing with long deep breaths. In fact, I am listening to it as I write this very article. This free video is 2 hours of relaxing classical music. There are some ads in the video, but they are located between the end of one piece and the beginning of another. I find these helpful as a reminder to get up and stretch since it is a very long video.
3. Guided Meditation Video for When You Are Overwhelmed
Have some time to yourself and need a deeper relaxation? A classic body scan style meditation takes you from head to toe. Relaxing every muscle in well-thought-out groups gradually brings you from the edge of panic back to a place of rationality. Try this free guided meditation on YouTube. Here your guide, Lavendaire, walks you through with positive, loving affirmations that will leave you relaxed, recharged, and ready to climb the next mountain with all your strength and vigor. This video is 20-min long, and you can either watch the video or follow her with your eyes close. Her voice is soothing and helps you focus and gives great affirmations as well.
4. Walking ASMR Meditation Video
Want to take a brisk walk in the woods but can’t get outside. Then take a stroll over to a lovely English walking trail in the UK. Many of the free meditation videos you find on YouTube are just of repeating and looping images or videos with music. Take a break from the usual and get focused with a virtual walk. I can’t always get outside or escape work to go and walk, but I still love to have nature and nature sounds around me. This 10-min video does just that. Put in your headphones and experience the calming effect of nature right at your desk. You can hear everything around you, even the footsteps of the creator.
5. Sleep Music
After working all day long, it can be hard to get to sleep at the end of the day. It is easy to get lost in social media, texts, emails, and all the distractions of life when you should be getting to sleep. One way to get myself to put my phone down is to put on a free YouTube meditation video, turn off the lights and get comfy in bed. I am always asleep before the video ends!
Conclusion
This is just my short list of free meditation videos you can find on YouTube. Take the lead and have some fun making your own curated list. Tailor it to your own style. The goal here is to be more mindful and relaxed with free resources. There is no excuse not to get started on your spiritual journey.
